What to expect from the Sugar Beach Resort
The Sugar Beach Resort takes its name from its main building called the Manor House, an old sugar plantation house of colonial style set in a sprawling tropical garden along several hundred metres of sandy beaches. Fringed by palm trees, brightened by bougainvilleas and perfumed by scented flowers, the gardens require an army of gardeners working every morning to keep them in pristine state.
This luxury hotel is situated at Flic en Flac, on the west coast of Mauritius which benefits from long dry spells of weather. There are 258 rooms and suites set out into 16 villas which can accommodate between 10 to 12 rooms each. Each room comes with air-con, minibar, wifi, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels in several languages and private balcony or patios.
You can choose between two restaurants for dining. Mon Plaisir is the main restaurant which offers buffet dinner in a variety of mouth-watering food from cuisines the world over, night after night. If you prefer a more exotic setting, opt for the beachfront restaurant on the beach where you will be able to watch the sunset on the west coast of Mauritius while having an appetiser. There are also a few bars to keep you refreshed throughout the heat of the day. If none of these restaurants tickle your fancy, why not head next door to the Paul & Virginie Restaurant for some amazing seafood next to the pool?
Because both the Sugar Beach Resort and La Pirogue belong to Sun Resorts, clients are able to use facilities at both hotels. The group also owns Le Touessrok hotel on the other side of the island which boasts its own exclusive golf course on its own small island off the coast. In terms of activities at Sugar Beach, you can choose from a vast array, from beach volley to kayaking, horse-riding and tennis, pedalo and indoor games. If these are not enough to keep you interested, you can benefit from neighbouring facilities. Go to La Pirogue to join their scuba diving club or to Black River Fishing Centre at Tamarin for some serious big-game fishing. There are plenty of things to do in Mauritius.
Spa and fitness
To cool down, visit Aura Spa and Fitness and enjoy some moments of pure relaxation. Choose from spa, massage, body treatments, hair and beauty. You will have your own therapist dedicated to spoiling you. If you are a member of a well-equipped gym back home and choose to use the hotel’s gym to keep your muscles in shape, you might be somewhat disappointed by its small size and lack of machines and free weight. But this is a hotel after all and your muscles will surely benefit from two weeks of rest from a punishing gym routine, so why not choose other activities such as horse-riding and quad-bikes to stay in shape?
Children are not forgotten at the Sugar Beach with the Sun Kids Club which offers a programme of activities to keep the under-12 occupied for up to 12 hours per day. Teenagers are also catered for with @Sungeneration which provides cool activities such as BBQs get-togethers, DJing and video games among others.
The Sugar Beach Resort is an ideal choice for couples what with its romantic settings, and for families as a result of its attention to catering for children too. There is also a babysitting service but this is not free of charge. This is where this luxury hotel is a bit of a let-down, charging for small services such as this and wifi despite the premium price you pay to stay there, while other activities, such as for kids, are completely free, which you lose out if you are a couple on holiday.
Nevertheless, your stay at this hotel, magnificent in more than one way, will not be boring with all the day and night-time entertainment and you will be well looked after.
